Until the Creepshow Comics from Image Comics were announced, we’d never had a full series based on the films before. We’ve had the Creepshow Graphic Novel adaptation that was illustrated by Bernie Wrightson, and the Creepshow #0 promotional SDCC comic that was put out by Heavy Metal Comics in support of the tv series release back in 2019, but there had never been a full comic book series based on the movies or tv show. That is, until now!

Image Comics, through Skybound, has announced a limited series of 5 Creepshow Comics that will be released starting September 21. All of the covers haven’t been announced yet, and the ones shown above are the standard covers, but the variants look really cool too.

Image Comics was a huge newcomer in the ’90s, after its founders Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, and more left Marvel comics to start their own company where they would control the rights to their own characters that they created. After a successful beginning and the rocky aftermath, Image Comics branched off and started focusing on more independent titles including the highly successful Walking Dead series. So it’s awesome to see Image Comics now taking the reins with Creepshow.
The first time that I saw Creepshow was on a Sunday afternoon on television, when I was a kid. It was the TV edited version, but the tone, mood, and comic book feel of it just resonated with me. Especially since I was a ’90s young teenager that read every comic book that I could get my hands on. Creepshow never really got the respect that it deserved from comic books. Horror comics are notorious for not selling well, but this was a film centered around EC Comic Books from the 1950s, so it really was a shame that very little came out in comics books to support it. It’s wonderful to see it getting a fresh new run with the tv series and now this line of comic books.
